Cryo body sculpting, or controlled cold lipolysis, refers to an innovative body contouring treatment that uses localized cooling to breakdown adipocytes and effectively reduce subcutaneous fat.
HOW IT WORKS
During the treatment, our physicians will use specialized equipment to cool down targeted fat deposits to 7 – 10°C. This will result in the formation of “lipid ice,” which is the equivalent of water forming ice at 0°C, effectively destroying fat cells with minimal effect on surrounding tissues.
Cryolipolysis uses vacuum-pressure devices that draw adipose tissue and skin — in the target area — into a special applicator cup that features thermistors to ensure that the temperature drop in the fat layer drops below 10°C so it freezes. To achieve this temperature, the skin may need to be cooled to -5°C.
The targeted cold treatment essentially removes energy and causes apoptosis (natural, controlled cell death) of fat cells, which leads to the release of inflammatory mediators (such as cytokines) that gradually digest targeted fat cells over the following weeks and months, ultimately destroying them and reducing the thickness of the fat layer.
The natural and complete breakdown and removal of fat cells via the lymphatic system takes between 8 and 12 weeks.
STEP 1:
Cryolipolysis starts when your physician places the applicator on the treatment area and cooling commences.
