Regenerative Medicine

With medical care focused on managing or delaying the progression of chronic disease and illness, the number of ailing patients throughout the United States is staggering. Many patients are caught up in a vicious cycle of seeing multiple doctors and specialists with no hope for healing in sight.

Yet, there are great developments taking shape in the form of regenerative medicine, with new innovations, techniques and therapies.

With the potential to fully heal damaged tissues and organs, regenerative medicine is awarding individuals with persistent or life-altering diseases a new lease on life. This is by targeting and treating the underlying cause of their condition, including musculoskeletal pain and injury.

Stem cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments are two examples used by aesthetic practices that continue to prove successful in treating sports-related injuries, diseased or damaged tissues, bones, joints, ligaments, and tendons.

STEM CELL THERAPY FOR JOINT PAIN RELIEF

A key component of regenerative medicine, stem cell therapy, involves harvesting a patient’s own stem cells from blood, bone marrow or fat tissues in the abdomen and concentrating them using a centrifuge. The isolated platelet cells, which contain rich proteins or “growth factors,” are then injected back into the area of damage or joint pain where they rebuild, strengthen, and drive tissue regeneration.

Thus, an individual’s own stem cells are used to accelerate healing by repairing and replacing damaged soft tissues in any joint or structure, including the knees, hips, shoulders, wrists, fingers, back, ankles, and elbows. In the long run, there is a dramatic reduction of pain and patients experience greater joint function and ultimately a better quality of life.

PRP THERAPY FOR JOINT PAIN RELIEF

Anyone with chronic or severe pain, including joint pain, understands that taking over the counter and prescription medication only provides temporary relief. This is because corticosteroids and painkillers mask the symptoms of a greater underlying issue. Fortunately, regenerative medicine using PRP treatments has become an effective treatment for chronic or acute joint pain and damage, including torn muscles, ligaments, and even arthritis.

Once a small amount of a patient’s blood is taken, it is spun in a centrifuge, which separates the platelet-rich-plasma. The concentrated platelets are rich in growth factors and enable injured tissues to repair and heal themselves. Specifically, PRP therapy can initiate the repair of torn cartilage that cushions joints, torn tendons, and damaged nerves (an example is in the wrist from carpal tunnel syndrome). It also replaces the synovial liquid and other buffering agents within joints that allow for mobility and pain-free movement.

CONDITIONS TREATED WITH REGENERATIVE CELL THERAPY

A number of degenerative joint and arthritic conditions can be treated at Modern Aesthetica with regenerative cell therapy, and many physicians and orthopedic organizations agree that PRP treatments should be the first choice in treating torn, weakened, or damaged tendons, muscles, ligaments, menisci, and labrums. Additionally, regenerative cell therapy provides non-surgical healing therapy for the following:

  • Knee joint pain
  • Hip pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Wrist and finger joint pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Arthritis

Do you experience pain from an injury that happened long ago? Perhaps you’ve strained a muscle or are suffering from an overuse injury, arthritis, or inflammation.
