Keto Diet Planning

KETO DIET PLANNING

At Modern Aesthetica’s weight loss clinic, we value the importance of helping patients find effective weight loss plans that can help them reach their individual goals in a healthy manner. For some, the keto diet is an ideal solution.

The ketogenic diet is a role reversal of the traditional diet, where fat and carbs essentially switch places. A keto diet relies on a strict high-fat, adequate-protein, and low-carb meal plan. In theory, the body will therefore be forced to burn fats rather than carbohydrates for energy.

While the keto diet has been used medically to help manage certain conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s disease, it can also be an effective approach for losing weight.

Dr. Daniel Moghadam typically recommends this diet to those who have an issue with portion control, as the high-fat content delivers an appetite suppression effect that causes people to eat less while following a keto diet. Although data are scarce regarding its long-term weight loss effect, the ketogenic diet has proven highly successful for short-term weight loss goals.

HIGH-FAT/LOW-CARB DIET

The foundation of the keto diet is fat. In fact, fats should make up nearly 70 percent of the diet, while protein should be 20 percent and carbs should be 10 percent. However, it is very important to consume the right kinds of fat. Clients should eat good fats, such as those derived from nuts, seeds, and avocados. It is imperative to maintain carb counts of 50 grams or below for the day, as this allows you to achieve ketosis, where your body uses fat for fuel. The overall success of the ketogenic diet is measured in weight loss/body fat loss.

KETOGENIC FOODS

When adopting the keto diet, clients should eat the proper “ketogenic foods” throughout the day. A typical breakfast may include a small portion of eggs, MCT oil-spiked coffee and a few pieces of cheese. Lunch and dinner should typically consist of a small protein serving (4 oz of dark meat chicken or steak or high-fat fish like salmon), a bowl of greens with olive oil and a portion of nuts. Other common ketogenic food options include:

  • Eggs
  • High-fat dairy
  • Meat, poultry and seafood
  • Dark chocolate
  • Olives and olive oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Berries

As part of your treatment plan at Modern Aesthetica, you will have access to expert nutrition counseling, which will include careful guidance on what types of ketogenic foods you should eat to achieve your weight loss goals.
